Artist's Comments

Well, I finally managed to get a page up that was both finished and roughly on time. Unfortunately, the work I been doin' tryin' to improve my technique isn't showin' as much as I'd like.
That said, I think I've spent the morning overanalyzing myself (as if I don't do that enough already), and I think I've got some issues with how I go about my art. I don't know...just kinda in a weird place right now...don't mind me.
Enjoy the comic, and I'll see y'all next week.

nice art, the story's interesting so far, it would much better grab a reader's attention if you got a truer black in there- always makes a comic look crisper, cleaner, and much more legible.

Got any suggestions on a truer black? I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but I definitly open to suggestion. At the moment, the blacks are:
lineart-either pilot precise v5 ballpoint, a zig .05 (in this particular page), or a sharpie finepoint marker.
Color- either a prismacolor premier art marker (in this page), or a standard sharpie.

Also, thanks for the compliment. I always worry about whether the story's actually interesting to other people.

truer black- darker, mostly. if you have any software (such as Photoshop) that will let you play with contrast or levels on an image, you should be able to quite easily darken the artwork, once you've scanned it. (maybe you could play with the scanner itself, too.)

otherwise, a sharpie sounds like it might do the trick? the art looks nice, but more contrast, especially a deeper black, is much more eye-grabbing and professional-looking in most comic lineart. (imho.)

you're quite welcome. I'm intrigued. :)

Thanks. I'll try the sharpie. I've never really liked doing much of anything (art-wise) on my computer, since it's pretty much out of date, and I can't really fund imaging software.

Seriously, though, thanks for the tip. I'll, at very least, give it a shot.

I understand software fee issues entirely. they really suck. :(

you're welcome. I hope it works out for you. :)
